I think you are completely right to try and publicize what it is like to have this disorder. I know you sometimes have to be brave to talk about it, but this is a problem with some of society, and not you. You wouldn't feel frightened to mention it if you had cancer, though you probably wouldn't wear it on your sleeve either. I have mentioned my problem to several strangers, and the response is usually better than you'd suspect. Though I've met a few idiots who go on about 'axe wielding maniacs' I found most people are either genuinely curious and sympathetic, though fairly ignorant on the subject. Lots of people either know somebody with a mental illness, or have a problem themselves. Maybe you don't have the same experience when you've been open about it, but I think it is a good thing to be honest about, and publicize the problem.
