Diagnosis

This article, which I found by following a link on Rossa Forbes' blog, 'Holistic Recovery from Schizophrenia' says just what I feel about diagnoses, much more articulately than I am ever able to articulate!  I might try to commit it to memory.

  1. It is thanks to Peter Breggin that I managed to get my son off the antipsychotic medication that was paralysing him physically and mentally. Doctors refused to help. They said that he needed to stay on risperidone for at least 6 months, probably longer. So we went behind their backs. The withdrawal symptoms were horrible but since Peter Breggin had warned us about them in his books, we didn't give up. Some of the withdrawal symptoms lasted weeks, even months after stopping the medication but at least he could walk and think again and in about a fortnight the terrible anxiety subsided. We owe Peter Breggin many, many thanks.

  2. Hi. I just re-read the article then followed the link to the new social reform organisation set up by Peter Breggin and his wife. I have just joined their social network and signed up for their e-newsletter - something I didn't have time to do the last time I looked - so thank you for reminding me of this.
